As they settled onto the warm sands and observed with defeated awe the spectacle unfolding on the horizon, Ray couldn’t help but watch them, his heart heavy with a mixture of admiration and sorrow. The weight finally caught up to him. Just exhaustion. He couldn’t find the strength to scream at the silent watchers hovering above in the heavens anymore. He knew they were there. He knew they were observing. He knew that God’s government and God’s covenant of free will, π, would not be broken. And he understood—not as belief, not as faith, but as fact—that nothing was ever going to intervene.
