The weight of reality crashed upon him with each replayed image—Emily was gone. Gone in a storm of smoke, flame, and steel. Gone beneath the weight of a city that had devoured its own. He couldn’t escape it—the tumbling towers, the screaming anchors, the cloud of dust that swallowed everything, in that city of the damned, crushing everything in their path—including his precious baby girl who had once filled his life with joy and laughter. Every passing moment choked him with grief and fury, infecting his mind, driving his heart to near explosive insanity.
